Parts of Your Pool System

Swimming pools are available in different shapes and sizes to offer maximum fun and enjoyment. But have you ever wondered about all the components and parts responsible for their smooth functioning? The working of a pool is not as simple as diving into the water on a hot summer day. As a swimming pool owner, it is essential to know about the pool's anatomy to carry out routine maintenance and the occasional troubleshooting. All these components help in circulation, filtration, and heating of the pool water.

Here are the essential parts of a pool system that all swimming pool owners should be aware of, to avoid that blank look while conversing with pool service and cleaning professional:

Pump

It can effectively be called the heart of a swimming pool. A motorized pump is responsible for maintaining clean and safe water in the pool by continuously pushing it from the swimming pool through the filtration system, and then again back to the pool. Without an effective pump, the pool water will become stagnant, dirty, contaminated, and not fit for swimming. The pump size will vary depending on the pool size. Larger pools will need pumps with higher horsepower.

Filter

As the name suggests, a filter's job is to trap and remove dirt, debris, and other visible and invisible contaminants, using different techniques to keep the pool water sparkling clean. There are mainly three types of filters: Sand filters, cartridge filters, and D.E. filters. A pool service company can help in choosing the filter that best suits your requirement.

Skimmer

A skimmer is a plastic box located at the side of a pool, containing a skimmer basket that works to collect different types of debris such as leaves, flower petals, hair, insects, and twigs from the pool's surface. The pool water first enters the skimmer before moving on to the filtration system. Every pool owner should regularly empty the skimmer basket.

Main drain

The job of the main drain is not much different from a skimmer. Located in the deep end at the bottom of the swimming pool, it is a suction outlet that facilitates better water circulation. In most modern residential inground pools, there are two main drains.

Returns

A return is an inlet through which the filtered and treated water re-enters the pool. It is located on the pool's side and is available in different forms, including side jets, waterfalls, and aerators.

Pipes and valves

There are different pipes responsible for carrying water to and from the pool and between the equipment. Valves offer control over the flow rate among pipes.

Heater

Heat is only a luxury and not necessarily an essential component found in all swimming pools. You can either add it during installation or any other time based on the requirement. Whether it is a gas, solar, or electric heater, it will be responsible for maintaining a comfortable pool temperature if you wish to enjoy an extended pool season.

Chemical feeders

Purifiers and chemical feeders help in quick and effective sanitization to maintain clean and clear water.

All the parts mentioned above are in one way or the other responsible for keeping the pool running smoothly year-round. There are special maintenance requirements for each component that should be taken care of by a pool service and cleaning company.
